Origin
Raipur is the state capital of the Indian state of Chhattisgarh.
The library is part of the State Archives and Museum, under the Directorate of Culture & Archaeology, Government of Chhattisgarh and has been given the State Library status. It caters to the information/reference needs of the museum/archive staff and the general public also.
The library was started in 1957 and was shifted to its current location in July, 2005.
Building
The library is functioning from a two storey building, provided by the city Municipal Council.
Ground floor has the librarian's room, office, circulation desk and book stacks.
First floor has the book stacks and the reading room.
Location
The library is located on the busy Great Eastern Road, inside the Shahid Samarak Complex.

Collection
The library has a rich collection of more than 53,500+ books in many different languages and on different subjects. Its reference section has more than 6 documents for the specific needs of the museum and other staff.
The library also maintains special Bastar collection.
The library subscribes 22 newspapers in 2 languages i.e. English and Hindi and around 100 magazines.
Membership
The library has 1683 registered members.
The library offers membership for a period of 2 years and is renewable thereafter. There is a membership fee of Rs. 100 and a refundable security of Rs. 200 needs to be paid at the time of Ist registration. This secutiry is carried forward during periodical renewals. The library offers life membership also at Rs. 1100/-.
A registered member is allowed to borrow 2 books for 14 days at a time. After the due date an overdue fine of 50 paise/day is levied if the book(s) is/are not returned.
Automation
The library is automated using Libsys software. Previously, another locally developed application KIOS was being used.
