District Library, Fatehabad
Origin
Like most other places in the state of Haryana the Fatehabad district area has a historical background dating back to the ancient periods. It finds mention in Mahabharta and Puranas. This region is supposed to have been part of the kingdom of Pandavas and their succesors. The region was part of Nanda Empire Maurian Empire and Kushan Empire. The Rajpoots, the Sikhs, the Marathas, the Mughals, the French and the Britishers have fought for it at one time or the other in history and have possessed it for different durations.
Fatehabad town was founded in the 14th Century by Firuz Shaw Tughlak. He named it after his son Firoz Khan. The district was carved on 15th July, 1997. The library is quite a younger member of the public library system in the state. It was established on 22nd February, 2007.
Building
The library is providing services to its members from a building that has been provided rent free by the local administration. The building was used by the local administration as court complex but when new land was allocated for the district courts and new building was constructed the court was shifted there and this building was allocated to the library.
The building is single storey with Librarian's Room, General Reading Hall, Girl's Reading Hall, Store Room, Stack Room, Office and Children Section etc.
Location
Fatehbad town is 220 Mm. (Approx) from National Capital Delhi on NH 10. The library is located in the Old Kachheri (Court) complex near the Jat Dharamshala.

Automation
The library has been provided SOUL ILS but the retro-convesion is still incomplete. However for office use the library is making use of two computers, printer and photocopy facility.
Working Days and Work Hours
The library is closed on Fridays and last Saturday of every month and all the gazetted holidays.
