District Library, Gurgaon

Origin

Gurgaon is a satellite city of New Delhi, the capital of India and is part of Haryana state. It has grown into a big industrial hub after many big companies, MNCs and small business houses shifted here after Delhi administration decided to move the industry out.

The library started around 1965 in a rented private building near main bus stand of the city. It was shifted to the present specially constructed building in 1972.

Building

The library has two storey building. The Ground Floor is occupied by General Stack Room on the left, RRRLF Collection Stack Room on the right & Librarian's Office.

The Ist Floor has the main Reading Hall.

Location

The library is situated in the heart of the city. It is just 10 minutes walk from the main City Bus Stand and is opposite to the Civil Hospital. It is neighbour to the Shama Restarant, the state owned guest house.

Staff

The Chronological List of Librarians,

• Mr Baghwat Singh from 1965 to 1972.
• Mr G.K. Lal Sharma from 1972 to 1996.
• Mr Varinder Kumar Yadav 1998 to 2007.
• Ms Kaval Mohini from 1981 to present.

Collection

The library has a collection of more than 43,000 books. The collection abounds in literature and apart from English almost all the Indian languages are covered.

Membership

The library has more than 4600 registered members till now.

• Adults Rs 500(Refundable) + Fee Rs 10(Non-Refundable)
• Children Rs 100

Information Technology

The library has six computers and is making use of SOUL software, though the retro-conversion is still going on.

The library is also equipped with audio visual material like TV, DVD player and maintains a small collection of CDs and DVDs.

Working Days and Work Hours

The library opens for public from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm

The library remains closed on Fridays and last Saturday of every month and all the gazetted holidays.
