District Library, Hisar
Origin
Hisar town was also spelled as 'Hissar'. It was founded by Firoz Shaw Tughlaq on the demolished ruins of an existing prosperous Hindu and Jain city of Iksaru. He named it as Hissar-e-Firoza. 'Hisar' is a Turkish word meaning 'Fortress'.
The library was established in 1967 and was started in a rented building at Red Square Market. Later it was shifted near DIG office where it was functional for sometime. Later the library was provided building by the local administration near Panchayat Bhawan and is functional from this place.
Building
The library has single storey building. The building is accomodates, Librarian's Room, Stack Room-cum-Reading Hall and Circulation Desk.
A building has been proposed for the library at Town Hall and will be constructed in near future.
Location
Hisar is situated 164 Km northwest of Delhi on the National Highway 10. The library is located near Panachayat Bhawan and is ten minutes walk from the Phuwara Chowk. It is just close to the back gate of the Govt. PG College.

The library has 1905 registered members till 05.02.2011.
Membership Security: - Adults Rs 500 (Refundable) + Fee Rs 10 (Non-Refundable)

The library has 3 PCs and SOUL ILS but the automation is incomplete.
Working Days and Work Hours
The library is closed on Fridays and last Saturday of every month and all the gazetted holidays.
The library opens for public from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm
