District Library, Nuh
Origin
Nuh is the district headquarter of the district Mewat. Mewat is the 20th and the youngest district of Haryana. It was carved out of the districts of Faridabad and Gurgaon. It was formed on 4th April, 2005. The area is inhabited Meo tribals, who are agriculturist. Meos trace their root to the early Aryan invasions of Northern India and claim themselves to be kshatriyas. During the regime of the Tughlak dynasty in the 14th century AD they embraced Islam but suprisingly till today they have preserved their age-old distinctive ethno-cultural identity.
The library was established as Sub-divisional library in the year 1988. After the formation of the mewat district Nuh was converted into dictrict headquarter and the existing sub-divisional library was upgraded to the status of District Library in the year 2008.
Building
The existing subdivisional library used to provide its services from the Bal Bhawan building, but after its upgradation to the status of district library the space was found to be insufficient so the library was transffered to a more spacious building constructed by the district development authorities in May, 2009. Here the library has a hall that accomodates book stacks and reading room, a librarian's room and a store. Also attached to the front is a veranda.
