District Library, Sonepat
Origin
The library was established in the year 1980. It started its operations on 28th January 1980. First the library was started in a rented building on Gohana Road, Sambhudayal School Street. Then it was shifted to another building in the same locality on Post Office Street. The library was shifted to its own building at the present location on 6 th December, 2003.
Building
The library has two story building. The building is well planned. The layout and design is quite simple but it can meet all the needs of the library. On the Ground Floor is situated the Librarian's Office, Reading Room and Store Room along with public conveniences. The Ist Floor has the Processing Section, Newspaper Files Repository and Three Private Rooms for Research Scholars and serious readers.
Location
The library is situated at District Tehsil Complex. The nearest mile stone is Kathmandi, a busy market place. It is closer to railway station than the city bus stand.
Staff
The library staff is intertransfferable with other educational institutions in the state.

Collection
The library has a total collection of more than 24,000 documents. More than half of the collection is literature in different Indian languages.
The library subscribes 11 newspapers in 4 languages i.e. English, Hindi, Punjabi and Urdu. The library also subscribes 5 magazines in English, Hindi and Punjabi.

Working Days and Work HoursThe library opens for public from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm The library remains closed on Fridays and last Saturday of every month and all the gazetted holidays.
