District Library, Yamunanagar
Origin
Yamunanagar was a small village called Abdullahpur before independence of India in 1947. The prominent place closeby was Jagadhari, which still exists. Most of the population of the village was centered around Jagadhari Railway Station. After the independence and the consequental partitioning many family migrated from Punjab in Pakistan to India and some of them setteled here. They formed a major cluster at the present day Model Town area, the centre of the city.
Yamunanagar was formed into a new district on 1st November 1989. Earlier it used to be a part of Ambala district.
The library was established as Sub-Divisional Library in 1986 and was upgraded to the status of District Library in the year 2005.
Building
The library has a single storey building provided rent free by the local administration in the model town area near Nehru Park. The building has a big hall that accomodates the book stacks and the adjoining reading space, one separate room as reading room and one room as librarian's office.
Location
Yamunanagar is at a distance of around 200 Kms. from the national capital Delhi and around 70 Kms. from state capital Chandigarh.
The district is bordered by the river Yamuna on the east. The river also acts as state boundary with the neigbhouring state Uttar Pradesh. In the north it shares its boundaries with another state Himachal Predesh. The districts of Ambala, Kurukshetra and Karnal are the other districts of Haryana that surround it in the west and south.
The library is located in the Model Town area near Nehru Park and Mukand Lal College.

Collection
The library has a collection of 11,501+ books. It is subscribing to 13 newspapers and 5 magazines.
Membership
The library has a total of 568 registered members till now.
Membership Security: - Adults Rs 500 (Refundable) + Fee Rs 10 (Non-Refundable)
- Children Rs 100
Automation
The library has been provided with a computer but it is being used for office work only and no automation of the library has been done so far.
Working Days and Work Hours
The library opens for public from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm
The library is closed on Fridays and last Saturday of every month and all the gazetted holidays.
