Rajkya Sarvajanik Zila Pustakalya (District Library), Bilada (Jodhpur)

Origin

Bilada (also spelt as Bilara) is town and Tehsil headquarter in Jodhpur district of Rajasthan. Jodhpur being a Divisional Headquarter along with being the district headquarter already had a divisional library, so the district library was established at Bilada.

The library was established in the year 1956. The library is the winner of the prestigious Best Public Library in North Zone awarded by the Raja Ram Mohan Roy Library Foundation (RRRLF) for the year 2002.

Building

The library was started in a rented building in the Moti Chowk area. Later it was shifted to Bader Chowk. In 2003 the library was established to the newly constructed state of the art building.

The building has a spacious Reading Room, Stack Room, Librarian's room, Office and Store Room etc.

Location

The library is located in the Indira Colony behind the city bus stand. It is about 750 meters from the city bus stand and around 1.5 kms from the railway station.

The library has a rich collection of 42,000+ books.

The library subscribes to 6 newspapers in English & Hindi and 25 magazines.

Membership

The library offers membership for a period of one session (1st April to 31st March) and is renewable thereafter. The membership fee is as under,

Membership Fee:

• Adults Rs 21 (form price Rs 1)
• Children Rs 11 (form price Rs 1)

The library has a computer for office and automation use with internet connectivity.

Working Hours

The library remains closed on every Tuesday. The library timings vary according to the season.

• Summer (I^st April to 30^th September) 12:00 noon to 8:00 pm
• Winter (I^st October to 31^st March) 11:00 am to 7:00 pm
