Rajkya Sarvajanik Zila Pustakalya (District Library), Chittorgarh
Origin
Chittorgarh (also spelt as Chittaurgarh) is the district headquarter of the district with the same name. It was former capital of the Sisodia Clans of Rajputs of Mewar. It is believed that Chittorgarh was established sometime in the 7th Century AD by the Maurya dynasty. It was then named Chitrakut after a Rajput chieftain Chitrangada Mori.
The library was started in the year 1956 in the Gandhi Chowk area. It was shifted to its present own building in 1992.
Building
The library has a single storey building spread over an area of 8000 sq. feet. The building has Reading Room, Stack Room, store, Librarian's room etc.
Location
Chittorgarh is situaged at distance of about 570 Kms from the national capital New Delhi and about 305 Kms from state capital Jaipur.
The library is located in the Gandhi Chowk on the Fort Raod. It is about 1.5 Kms from the city Bus Stand and 4 Kms from the Railway Station.

Collection
The library has a rich collection of 43,200+ books. The whole collection has been divided into many general and special sub-collections arranged according to DDC-19 classification scheme. A major part of collection has been catalogued using e-pustakalya software.
The library also maintains a small but valuable collection of rare books.
The library subscribes to 12 newspapers in English & Hindi and 38 magazines.

Membership
The library offers membership for a period of one session (1st April to 31st March) and is renewable thereafter. The membership fee is as under,

Information Technology
The library has one computer for automating its collection. A considerable part of the library collection has been catalogued using e-pustakalya and the work is in progress.
Working Hours
The library remains closed on every Tuesday. The library timings vary according to the season.
- Summer (Ist April to 30th September) 12:00 noon to 8:00 pm
- Winter (Ist October to 31st March) 11:00 am to 7:00 pm
