District Library, Hanumangarh


Origin

The district was carved out of Sriganganagar district on 12th July, 1994. The older name of Bharatpur was 'Bhatner'. In 1805 king Soorat Singh of Bikaner captured it and named it after Lord Hanumana as the day of his victory was Tuesday, the day of Lord Hanumana

The region has ancient history. The remains found in the area supply sufficient evidence that region was inhabited 5000 years old Indus Valley Civilization. The civilization was well developed with all the amenities of need. Kalibangan, a famous town belonging to Indus Valley Civilization is located in this district.

The library was established in 1998 after the formation of Hanumangarh into a new district in 1994.

Building

The library has its own single storey building. The building has been divided into different sections for convenience. The sections are reading room, stack room, children section, librarian's room, office, a gallery and store.

Location

Hanumangarh is located at a distance of around 350 Kms from national capital New Delhi and around 400 Kms from state capital Jaipur.

The library is located on the Kachheri Road opposite Forest Department Office.

Collection

The library has rich collection of 11000+ books. The whole collection has been divided into many general and special collections arranged according to DDC-19 classification scheme with AACR2 catalogue. The process of automation is underway using E-pustakalya.

The library subscribes 12 newspapers in English, Hindi & Punjabi and 35 magazines.

Membership

The library has around 243 registered active members for this session.

The library offers membership for a period of one session (1st April to 31st March) and is renewable thereafter. The the membership fee is as under,

Membership Fee:

  • Adults Rs 50 (form price Rs 5 extra)
  • Children (5-14 years) Rs 50 (form price Rs 5 extra)

Information Technology

The library is in the process of acquiring of computers and will start with the automation porcess shortly. The automation of library operations will start soon. The library offers photocopy facility to its members at the nominal rate of Rs 1/page. The library is connected through internet.

Working Hours

The library remains closed on every Tuesday. The library timings vary according to the season.

  • Summer (Ist April to 30th September) 12:00 noon to 8:00 pm
  • Winter (Ist October to 31st March) 11:00 am to 7:00 pm
