Rajkya Sarvajanik Zila Pustakalya (District Library), Jalore
Origin
Jalore (or Jalor) is the district headquarter of a district with the same name in the state of Rajssthan in India. It got its name from Maharishi Jabali, a great saint who lived here. Many different names had been given to the place in the past. It was also known as Subarngiri or Songir (the Golden Mount) due to the name of the mount on which the famous fort stands. Many different rulers have ruled the region.
The library was established way back but is functional from the present building since 1960.
Building
The library is offering its services from a rented building. Its a single storey building with one book stacks room on the Ist floor and two on the ground floor.
Location
Jalore is at a distance of about 650 Kms from national capital New Delhi and about 390 Kms from state capital Jaipur.
The library is located in the center of the city near the Sabzi Mandi. The area is education hub in the city with many eductional institutes in the vicnity. It is around 0.5 Kms from the city Bus stand and about 1.5 Kms from the city Railway station.

Collection
The library has a rich collection of 40,000+ books. The whole collection has been divided into many general and special collections arranged according to DDC-19 classification scheme.
The library subscribes to 20 newspapers in English & Hindi and 50 magazines.

Membership
The library has around 30 registered active members for this session till now.
The library offers membership for a period of one session (1st April to 31st March) and is renewable thereafter.
There is a nominal membership fee, but a refundable security of Rs 500/- needs to be paid at the time of Ist registration by outsiders. This secutiry is carried forward during periodical renewals. The membership fee is as under,
Membership Fee: - General Public Rs 21 (including form price)
- Students/Senior Citizens Rs 11 (including form price)
Information Technology
The library makes use of computer for office work only.
Working Hours
The library remains closed on every Tuesday. The library timings vary according to the season.
- Summer (Ist April to 30th September) 12:00 noon to 8:00 pm
- Winter (Ist October to 31st March) 11:00 am to 7:00 pm
