Rajkya Saravjanik Zila Pustakalya (District Library), Jhunjhunu
Origin
Jhunjhunu is the district headquarter of the Jhunjhunu district.It is believed that the town was named after a Jat 'Jhunjha' or 'Jujhar Singh Nehra'. But the fact is still controversial due to lack of any historical evidence. The town is supposed to have been rules by Chauhan Dynasty back in Vikram era 1045. Shwkhawat Rajputs are said to have ruled in 18th century. It is famous for the frescos on its grand Havelis.
The library was established on 12 March, 1956. It was started in a rented building on the Modi Road. In March 1999 it was shifted to its own building at the present location.
Building
The library occupies a spacious single storey building. The building has been divided into different functional sections. These are, reading room (40 X 35 sqr. feet), stack room (40 X 35 sqr. feet), reception counter (25 X 30 sqr. feet), children section (15 X 11 sqr. feet), women section (10 X 10 sqr. feet), staff room (10 X 9 sqr. feet), librarian's room (10 X 9 sqr. feet) and computer room (10 X 8 sqr. feet).
Location
Ajmer is located at a distance of 230 Kms (approx.) from national capital New Delhi and 171 Kms (Approx.) from state capital Jaipur.
The library is located on the Modi Road near the Gandhi Chowk. It is about 3 Kms from the city bus stand and about 6 Kms from the city railway station.

Collection
The library has rich collection of 40000+ books. The whole collection has been divided into many general and special collections arranged according to DDC-19 classification scheme with AACR2 catalogue. The process of automation is underway using E-pustakalya.
The library subscribes 16 newspapers in English & Hindi and 60 magazines.

Membership
The library has around 150 registered active members for this session.
The library offers membership for a period of one session (1st April to 31st March) and is renewable thereafter. There is a nominal membeship fee.
Membership Fee: - Adults Rs 21 (form price Rs 1 extra)
- Children (5-14 years) Rs 21 (form price Rs 1 extra)
Information Technology
The library makes use of computer for office work. The automation of library operations is underway. The library is connected through internet. Library patrons are offered photocopy facility at the rate of Rs 1/page.
Working Hours
The library remains closed on every Tuesday. The library timings vary according to the season.
- Summer (Ist April to 30th September) 12:00 noon to 8:00 pm
- Winter (Ist October to 31st March) 11:00 am to 7:00 pm
