Rajkya Sarvajanik Zila Pustakalya (District Library), Karauli


Origin

Karauli (also spelt as Karoli and Kerowlee) is the district headquarter of the district with the same name. It is an historic town. It was established in 1348 by Maharaja Arjun Dev Yadav.

The library was established in the year 2003. The district was carved out on 1st March, 1997 from the Swai Madhopur District.

Building

The library has a single storey building. Previously the building was being used by the local administration. After the formation of Karoli into a district a new building was constructed for the local administration and this building was handed over to the newly established District Library. The library has Stack Room, Reading Room, Reception and a spacious Conference Hall. The Conference Hall is used for local literary activities.

Location

Karauli is located at a distance of about 300 Kms from national capital New Delhi and is at a distance of about 175 Kms state capital Jaipur.

The library is located in the Bhudara Bazar, near the Ganesh Gate. It is about 1 Kms from the city bus stand.

Collection

The library has a rich collection of 22000+ books. The whole collection has been divided into many general and special sub-collections according to DDC 19th Edition.

The library subscribes to 14 newspapers in English & Hindi and 30 magazines.

Membership

The library offers membership for a period of one session (1st April to 31st March) and is renewable thereafter. The membership fee is as under,

  • For All types of members Rs 25 (form price Rs 1)

Information Technology

The library has one computer with internet connectivity. The library is also automating its collection using e-pustakalya. Photocopy facility is also available for library members at the nominal rate of Rs 1/page. The library is equipped with an power inerter for power backups.

Working Hours

The library remains closed on every Tuesday. The library timings vary according to the season.

  • Summer (Ist April to 30th September) 12:00 noon to 8:00 pm
  • Winter (Ist October to 31st March) 11:00 am to 7:00 pm
