National Centre for Children's Litrature, New Delhi

Origin

The National Centre for Children's Literature (NCCL) a wing of National Book Trust, India opened its Library-cum-Documentation Centre to the public on 22 January 1999. A reference and lending library for children as well as professionals working in the field of Children's Literature, this is the only one of its kind in the country. The centre stocks over 15,000 books, the best of world's literature for age group up to 15, as well as for reference to authors, illustrators, publishers, teachers, activists, editors etc. in the field of children's literature in all major Indian and international languages. Over 50 periodicals of children's literature in various Indian languages are also subscribed by the centre for reading and reference of the library users.

The library now connected with the library network across the country and members can access the books online.

Building

This is a Modular library construction in process at the ground floor of Nehru Bhawan

Location

The library is located in south Delhi, the national capital of India in Vasant Kunj, Near Grand Hotel. Its an Institutional area and many prestigious institutes of quality learning are coming up in NCCL vicnity.

The library has a special collection of 17000 books on and about children

The library subscribes to 2 newspapers in English & Hindi and 50 magazines.

Membership

One may become member of this library by paying Rs. 100/- as one time membership fee and Rs. 500/- as refundable security.

Two books or one book and one periodical can be issued to a member at a time.

Information Technology

The library is fully automated using state of the art library management software Virtua. The opac can be searched here.

Working Hours

The library remains open from 10 am to 5 pm from monday to friday. The library will remain closed on all Government holidays.
