District Library, Mathura
Origin
District Library, Mathura (Rajkya Sarvajanik Zila Pustakalya, Mathura in Hindi) was established in 1958. This is one of the two main public libraries in the city, the other being Sri Krihsan Sodhpeeth Library.
Building
The library has a spacious building. The building was constructed in 1960. It has a big hall that acts as Stack Room and Reading Room. Also there are librarian's room, computer room and store.
Location
The library is located in Dampier Nagar area of the City, opposite the Dampier Park (now Avanti Bai park). The famous Mathura Museum is on the other side of the park.

Collection
The library has rich collection of 50,000 + books in English, Hindi, Sanskrit & Urdu languages. The library also has a few rare manuscipts.
The library subscribes 7 newspapers in 2 languages i.e. English and Hindi. The library also subscribes 7 magazines in English and Hindi.

Membership
The library offers membership to the local residents and those coming from the nearby areas. The users haveto register for obtaining membership. Only the rgistered members are priviledged to borrow books and other documents from the library, however, reading room service is open to non-registered members also.
Information Technology
The library has 5 computers with internet connectivity and the automation of its vast collection will start soon. The library also has photocopy facility for office use.
Working Hours
Apart from the gazetted holidays the library remains closed on every Sunday and 2nd Saturday of the month. The library timings vary according to the season.
- Summer 8:00 am to 10:00 am & 2:00 pm to 6:00pm
- Winter 9:00 am to 11:00 am & 1:00 pm to 5:00pm
