The American Library, kolkata

Origin

The library was formerly known as United States Information Service (USIS). It is a part of the Public Affairs Office of the American Consulate General, Kolkata.

Location

The library is located inside the American Center on the Jawahar Lal Nehru Road, Kolkata.

Collection

The library has a rich collection of 15,000 volumes of books. It also maintains a substantial collection of digital material and also subscribes to many online resources. The collection can be accessed online through OPAC at http://amlibindia.state.gov.

Membership

The library offers membership to three categories of people from the eastern India, local individuals, outstation individuals and institutions. The forms for each category of membership can be downloaded from http://www.kolkata.usconsulate.gov/resources/membership.html

Information Technology

The library like all other libraries in the system is fully automated. The library collection can be accessed from the Web OPAC at http://amlindia.state.gov.

Working Hours

Monday to Saturday 10:00 am to 6:00 pm

The library remains closed on sundays and Indian and American holidays.
