The American Libraries in India are run by the US Government through its Embassy in New Delhi and branches at other places in the country. These libraries share the common mission of apprising the local people of the culture and development going in the USA. They maintain a select collection of print and non-print material and act as a window to the cultural of their parent country.

The public library system in US is quite old and well developed and these libraries are models in India. They are fully equipped with the state of the art equippment and offer best of the services in many innovative ways.

Branches in India

The American library has four branches in four metro cities of India. These are,

Apart from these libraries The American Library has American Corners at Chandigarh and Bangalore. These are extension counters extended by The American Library, New Delhi and The American Library, Chennai respectively. They have the common goal of "providing a window on life and culture in the United States and are the first place to visit for accurate and up-to-date information about political, economic, cultural, educational and social trends in the United States."
