Many public library systems in foreign countries have their branches in India as part of their foreign relation or cultural policies. These libraries operate either throuth their embassies or some specialy oraginzed institutions like foundations. Some these libraries existed in India before independence and some others came into existence after independence of India in 1947. These libraris have been opened to maintain healthy foreign and cultural relations. They also act as a window for the local pupulation into the culture and current developments of the country they represent. In India these libraries are really trend setters with their latest technology and always evolving new arenas of library services. They are role models for the local libraries.
